365 Days of Creativity – Days 103 to 112

Standard

Hey internet people!  I’m surprised I’m not more behind with my posts – it feels like a month since I’ve blogged.  I’ve been busy, of course!  Paintball season is gearing up, so I’ve got lots of orders to keep my busy.  But, again, that’s work.  I’m posting play here.  The fun, artsy stuff!  I’m still on my mail art kick; who knows, maybe It’ll end up being 365 days of mail art!  I do one or two things here and there that aren’t drawing, but I am still feeling that drawing pull big time.  So, with no further adieu, here’s what I’ve been working on for lots of swaps and trades over at ATCsforAll! I think I’ll hit ya with a bunch of inchies first!  I love making inchies (1″X1″ art).

First, elephants!  Done with marker, gel pen, and colored pencil.

Whew! I’m very behind on my posts this time.  Again, I’m still on my mail art kick, doing lots of ATCs and inchies especially!

To start, here are a few sets of cards I’ve done for swaps:

8 cards I did for a private trade with a user from the UK.  She had a wide variety of subjects she likes to collect, so I had lots of themes to work with!  I’m most tickled with the stegosaurus, I love rainbows and dinosaurs. 🙂  There’s a variety of media: marker, gel pen, watercolor, coloured pencil.

Next up, I did cards for a Dr Who TARDIS swap!  Look at all that TARDIS-ey goodness!

Then I did a 3 card private trade, and the person I was trading with likes goddesses, so I was inspired and did a Sun, Sky, and Water Goddess for her. 🙂

Last, but certainly not least, whimsical sheep!  I love drawing silly, whimsical cards!  hehe

Sorry for the way overdue posts; I was super busy sewing for the big paintball game I attended in Ontario this past weekend.  Now I’m taking a break from sewing for a few days, and I’ve been working on some mail art!!  Here are seven ATCs I made for a swap, the theme of which was “Kawaii Food”.  I had a lot of fun with this one, it was nice to have something fun to doodle!

I’ve been trying to find things to do between all my sewing, not just to spice up the variety on my blog, but to spice up my creating.  I’ve said it before; I get bored doing one thing and need to throw some other things in the mix too.  When I got my business cards in the mail, I knew that I wanted to make a nice card holder for them so I can travel with them.  I had seen some neat duct tape ones online, and I have a few cute rolls of duct tape (well, I only had the rainbow on hand, the Hello Kitty and cupcakes duct tape were packed away).  Actually, since this holder is for my Paintball Tailor cards, technically I should have used camo tape, but I have no idea where ROb put that.  So, rainbow it is, at least until I find the camo tape!  I googled and found a tutorial  for a cute duct tape business card holder at a nifty crafty blog, a {day} with lil mama stewart.  I whipped them up with her easy-to-follow instructions in no time.  The only change I made was the final step, where she stapled the edges, I ran them through my sewing machine for a bit of a cleaner look.  What do you think?  Next time I think I’ll use a bit thinner cardstock, as they were a little hard to keep creased (I’ve got them under something heavy to squish them now), and since I had the machine out to stitch the edges, I’d probably just sew the ribbon on too, instead of waiting for the glue to dry.  Or, you could even run a band of little duct tape (it comes in little wee thin rolls now, like scotch tape width!) down the middle.

For day 58, I have a bit of a cheat. I did create this, just not today.  Not even this decade. This century. This millennium.  Snap, I am old!  😉  I drew this when I was 9 years old. How funny is this?!?  I rememebr that one piece blue (the pic has faded) velour halter jumpsuit, and a pair of my Grandmother’s knit slippers.  My sweet Grandmother gave this to me recently, and she was all giggles about it.  I’m not sure where she had this tucked away, but it is a keeper.  Happy #TBT!  🙂  Oh! I just realized now, looking at the picture, that I drew red dots all over me.  This was the summer I had chickenpox.  HAHAHAHA

Eventually my arms and legs evened out, and became the same length as I grew.  I even developed elbows and grew eyebrows in my later years.  😉

365 Days of Creativity – Days 52 Through 56

I managed to squeeze in a little mail art this week too, between all the sewing and all the being sick.  For 5 days, I present 3 ATCs and 2 sets of Inchies!  Most of these were a private trade, a couple of the ATCs and both sets of inchies were second versions of art I made previously.  I always do things differently though, I don’t want to copy the first piece! 🙂

365 Days of Creativity – Days 49 to 51

Much fabric has been flying in the studio this week.  I’m selling my paint ball wares at a huge game in Ontario in a couple of weeks, so I’m making stock for that like mad, and getting the rest of my custom orders for Rob’s team done so they’ll have their items for that game.  I know I said I’d try to keep the paint ball posts to a minimum, but I’ve got a few neat things, and that’s mostly what I’ve been working on this week, so bear with me for this post.

First I have a few 10-round paint ball tube holders, in Vietman tiger stripe camo.  Team SMERF’s camo of choice, and these are for a member of their team.  Don’t mind the chalk marks, I forgot to wipe them off before taking a pic!

101_0092Next up is something another member of SMERF asked me to make.  It’s a wishbone harness, with paracord straps.  You use it to attach your gun to your vest, so you don’t have to hold it when it’s not in use.  I had never worked with braiding paracord before, and while I caught on to the braiding part pretty quickly, it was the finishing the ends to make them super secure that had me stuck.  I tried the usual burning the nylon and smooshing the melted ends into the braid.  That didn’t hold well enough in my opinion.  Then I tried every glue I could think of from glue gun to gorilla glue to epoxy.  Nothing.  I finally found a fantastic tutorial on youtube that gave instructions for weaving the ends back into the braid itself, and it makes it super secure.  I’m so happy with the final result, I’m making one for myself too.  🙂

101_0101Since I’m going to that game in a couple of weeks as a vendor, I’m of course bringing my new banner.  I whipped up this cute sleeve for it for safe transport.
